  • Carlton Sheets

I have watched Carlton Sheets commercials for over twenty years. I'm not sure if Carlton invented the phrase, "No Money Down", but whenever I hear it, I think of Carlton sheets. Interestingly, I have never met anyone who talks about following Carlton's plan.

I finally ordered Carlton's basic course, when I became a casualty of the Dot Com bust. I say "basic", because once I called the number to order the course, I was offered a bewildering array of additional products. All of them sound indispensable to being successful, and since I had already decided to buy, I was in a vulnerable state to part with more money.

Almost immediately after purchasing the course, I was called by a very persuasive "advisor", who seemed sincere and helpful. He wanted to know what my goals were, and if I was motivated enough to attain them. The kicker was when I was told that Carlton Sheets himself wanted to "make" 100 new millionaires's that year with his system. My advisor convinced me that the quickest way to become one was to have one of Carlton's "experts" guide me all the way.

This sounded logical to me, so I maxed out my credit card for another five thousand bucks, to receive a phone call every week, by my personal coach. I was told this would include the necessary investment capital, and I could expect to recover my investment capital within three months. My expectations were, that I would be swept into the high-income, fast-paced world of real estate deals, and that Carlton's "expert" would be giving me explicit instructions on where to go, what to do, and when to do it.

What happened was, Carlton's "expert" asked me what I wanted to do, where I thought I should do it, and how much investment capital I had to accomplish it. I was instructed to read the materials, discuss any questions I had about what I read, and try to find some reasonably priced properties to make offers on. I live in Silicon Valley, so it became immediately apparent to me, that this course is not for everyone. By the end of my eight week coaching, I had traveled over 700 miles, and looked at four properties in foreclosure, and wound up in more debt than when I started.
